The Growth and Expansion of Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas

Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas has experienced a significant increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2024. The airport served 28.9 million passengers through June, marking a 2.6% increase from the same period last year. This growth has put the airport on track to surpass its record year in 2023, when it served 57.6 million flyers.

May was the second-busiest month in the history of Harry Reid Airport, with over 5.2 million arrivals and departures. June followed closely behind as the third-busiest month, serving just over 5 million passengers, which reflects a 3.7% increase from June 2023. Despite these impressive numbers, October 2023 still holds the title for the busiest month ever recorded at the airport, with 5.47 million passengers.

The airport has also seen a significant increase in international passengers during the first six months of 2024, totaling 1.9 million, a 20.4% jump from the same period in 2023. To accommodate this growing international demand, new options are being introduced. Aer Lingus will begin direct flights from Dublin, Ireland, to Las Vegas on Oct. 25, opening up new travel opportunities for visitors from Europe. Norse Atlantic will also start service from London’s Gatwick Airport on Sept. 12, further expanding the airport’s international reach.

In addition to international growth, Harry Reid Airport is also expanding its domestic connectivity. Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris reported a significant increase in passengers in June, up 11.5% from the previous year. The airline will introduce service from Tijuana on Oct. 29, providing easier travel options for residents of central and noncoastal areas of Mexico. Virgin Atlantic has reinstated nonstop flights from Manchester, England, further strengthening the airport’s domestic network.

Overall, the growth and expansion of Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas underscore its importance as a key transportation hub in the region. With record-breaking numbers, new international routes, and enhanced domestic connectivity, the airport is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory in the coming years.
