A recent report by the International Workplace Group compared 30 cities globally based on various criteria to determine the best cities for workcations. The cities were rated on factors such as climate, culture, accommodation, transport, food, cost of living, happiness, broadband speed, sustainability, and the availability of flexible workspaces. These criteria were selected to measure how conducive overseas environments would be for individuals looking to work remotely while still enjoying a high quality of life.
The report revealed that Budapest has topped the list as the best city for workcations, followed by Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Lisbon, New York, Singapore, Jakarta, Los Angeles, and Milan. Budapest, known for its classical architecture and vibrant neighborhoods, scored high in categories such as accommodation, transport, sustainability, and broadband speed, making it an ideal choice for digital nomads. Barcelona, which held the top spot last year, continues to be a favorite among hybrid workers, offering reliable transportation infrastructure and a lively atmosphere.
Asian Cities in the Spotlight
Cities in Asia also made a strong showing on the list, with Beijing, Singapore, and Jakarta securing spots in the top 10. Singapore, in particular, climbed 14 places from last year to the seventh spot, thanks to its exceptional broadband quality and sustainability. The city-state, known for its world-class airport and global connectivity, has become an attractive destination for travelers looking to combine work and leisure.
The trend of workcations is expected to continue growing as more companies adopt work-from-anywhere policies to enhance employees’ work-life balance. Mark Dixon, founder and CEO of International Workplace Group, believes that this trend will only accelerate in the coming years, with more companies embracing flexible work arrangements to attract top talent.
