The Glenfiddich Dominates at TAG Global Spirits Awards

TAG Global Spirits Awards, a relatively new competition in the spirits industry, was established in 2022 by a group of industry experts. The primary goal of this organization is to acknowledge and celebrate both well-established and emerging spirits brands, as well as the talented individuals behind them. Since its inception, TAG has attracted numerous renowned liquor brands to participate in the competition, solidifying its reputation within the industry. As we approach the 3rd annual iteration of TAG, scheduled for March, let’s delve into some of the most recent results that highlight the remarkable achievements of The Glenfiddich.

When it comes to scotch, one brand has undoubtedly captivated the palates of the esteemed judges at TAG Global Spirits Awards – The Glenfiddich. The Glenfiddich, a legendary distillery located in Speyside, played a pivotal role in popularizing single malt scotch globally during the early 1960s.

With hundreds of scotch entries received at TAG, only three expressions were awarded the prestigious Best In Show status. Astonishingly, two of these extraordinary offerings hailed from The Glenfiddich, solidifying their reputation for excellence within the industry.

The first of The Glenfiddich’s award-winning expressions was the 21 Year Old Reserve Rum Cask Finish. This 80-proof single malt scotch underwent maturation in barrels seasoned with cane spirit, infusing the liquid with enticing notes of molasses, marzipan, and brown sugar. These characteristics evoke the distinct flavors commonly associated with rum. The average retail price of this exceptional scotch sits just north of $200 per bottle, making it a true gem for enthusiasts.

The second Glenfiddich bottling that garnered significant recognition at TAG was the 23 Year Old Grand Cru. This elegant expression spends time in rare French cuvée casks, which previously held high-end white wine. The intention behind this maturation process is to create a scotch that evokes the essence of Champagne. The prominent notes of brioche and baked apple make this scotch truly delightful. With an 80-proof profile, this expression joined The Glenfiddich’s permanent portfolio in 2019 and has already received a coveted Double Gold distinction at the San Francisco World Spirits Awards. However, indulging in this exceptional scotch comes at a price – nearly twice the cost of its 21-year-old counterpart.

The final scotch to secure the Best In Show recognition at TAG Global Spirits Awards is Glen Moray 21 Year Old Port Wood Finish. Despite being a dark horse in the US market, Glen Moray produces a sensational sipping spirit with an impressive 46.3% ABV. The two years of aging in Portuguese sweet wine casks impart a deep copper hue, accompanied by delightful flavors of dark chocolate and a full, lush body. Due to its lack of mainstream adoration in the US, acquiring a bottle of Glen Moray 21 Year Old Port Wood Finish is remarkably affordable, with prices well below $200.

The Glenfiddich, paired with the lesser-known Glen Moray, showcased their expertise and remarkable craftsmanship in the scotch category at the TAG Global Spirits Awards. These phenomenal expressions not only captivated the palates of the esteemed panelists but also solidified The Glenfiddich’s position as a frontrunner in the industry. As the TAG Global Spirits Awards continue to grow, spirits enthusiasts eagerly anticipate discovering more exceptional brands and their outstanding offerings.
