Deer Valley Resort Announces Major Expansion Plans

Deer Valley Resort in Park City has recently announced plans for a major expansion that will significantly increase the size of the resort. The first phase of this expansion is set to open earlier than expected, with three new lifts providing access to 20 new runs totaling 316 skiable acres. In addition, 500 new parking spaces will be available to accommodate the influx of visitors to the newly expanded area.

One of the highlights of the expansion is the introduction of the Keetley Express, a six-person chairlift with a bubble. This chairlift will offer direct access from the new Deer Valley East Village to the existing resort area. Two additional chairlifts, Hoodoo Express and Aurora, will service beginner-level ski trails and provide return access to the East Village. This expansion will bring Deer Valley’s total skiable acreage to 5,700, making it the fourth largest ski area in the U.S.

Once fully completed, the East Village expansion will include a total of 3,700 skiable acres, 16 chairlifts, and a 10-passenger gondola. Plans also include the construction of 800 hotel rooms, 1,700 residential units, and 250,000 square feet of commercial space in the East Village. This ambitious project is part of a larger $300 million capital investment program by Deer Valley’s owner, Alterra Mountain Company, aimed at improving and expanding its 16 North American ski areas.

In addition to the expansion at Deer Valley, other Alterra Mountain Company resorts are also set to benefit from the capital investment program. Crystal Mountain in Washington State will debut its Mountain Commons Lodge, offering enhanced skier services and dining options. Mammoth Mountain in California will see upgrades to its lift system, including the replacement of the Broadway Express chair with a high-speed six-person lift. This upgrade is expected to increase capacity by 25%. Other resorts, including Big Bear Mountain Resort in California and Sugarbush and Stratton in Vermont, will also receive new or upgraded lifts as part of the investment program.

Overall, the expansion of Deer Valley Resort and the investments in other Alterra Mountain Company properties demonstrate a commitment to providing top-quality skiing experiences for visitors. With new chairlifts, additional terrain, and improved amenities, skiers can look forward to exciting new opportunities at these premier ski destinations.
