Susitna Adventure Lodge: A True Alaskan Experience

Susitna Adventure Lodge: A True Alaskan Experience

The Susitna Adventure Lodge, a 75-acre property located in Denali Highway, offers guests a wide range of activities that embody the essence of the Alaskan wilderness. From panning for gold and fishing for grayling to exploring old mining trails on all-terrain vehicles, the lodge provides an extensive list of experiences that showcase the best of the Great Land. In the summer, guests can enjoy paddleboarding, canoeing, hiking, bird watching, and the occasional bear or moose sighting. In the winter, activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and northern lights viewing. However, the highlight of any visit is interacting with the property’s sled dogs, who are not only working athletes but also cherished members of the family.

The lodge is owned and operated by Cody Strathe and Paige Drobny, who share a deep passion for dog mushing. Drobny, a fisheries biologist, and Strathe, who studied archaeology, both have experience in outdoor and adventure-related fields. They first delved into dog mushing when Strathe built Drobny a sled as a gift, and their kennel quickly grew to 13 dogs within a season. With Drobny having run the Iditarod nine times and Strathe four times, their expertise and love for dog sledding are evident in the hands-on experiences and tours offered at Susitna Adventure Lodge.

The lodge property, which features a rustic 1950s roadhouse, was first discovered by Drobny and Strathe 15 years ago. Although they were unable to purchase it at the time, they were captivated by its charm and historical significance. The roadhouse, once a popular stop for travelers on the Denali Highway, closed in the 1980s but was resurrected by the couple in 2019. Combining their building skills, passion for dog mushing, and a desire to share Alaska’s beauty with others, Drobny and Strathe transformed the property into a haven for adventure-seekers and nature lovers alike.

One of the standout features of Susitna Adventure Lodge is its personalized approach to guest experiences. Before check-in, Drobny and Strathe reach out to guests to determine their interests and preferences, ensuring a tailored stay for each visitor. This bespoke approach appeals to a wide range of travelers, from families to backcountry enthusiasts, who seek a unique and authentic Alaskan experience away from the typical tourist hotspots. Whether arriving by train, plane, or SUV on tracks, guests are welcomed into a world of stunning natural beauty and warm hospitality at Susitna Adventure Lodge.

The lodge offers all-inclusive packages with a three-night minimum stay, bundling accommodations, meals, and guided activities into a seamless and immersive experience. Guests are accommodated in newly built log homes with solar power, offering modern amenities in a pristine wilderness setting. With panoramic views of the Alaska Range and Clearwater Mountains, guests can enjoy the beauty of nature from the comfort of their bedrooms or the spacious deck. The lodge’s chef prepares meals using locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the best of Alaskan produce and cuisine.

Susitna Adventure Lodge stands out as a premier destination for travelers seeking an authentic and unforgettable Alaskan experience. With a focus on dog mushing, personalized service, and luxury in the wilderness, the lodge embodies the spirit of adventure and exploration that defines the Great Land. Whether summer or winter, guests can immerse themselves in the natural beauty and rich heritage of Alaska, making memories that will last a lifetime.
