Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) recently announced their ambitious plans to order eight new ships, spanning all three of their brands, with anticipated deliveries between 2026 and 2036. Fincantieri has been chosen as the builder for all these vessels. This expansion includes the construction of a two-ship pier at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, where guests can enjoy NCLH’s private island destination.
NCLH revealed that Norwegian Cruise Line is set to receive four approximately 200,000-gross-ton ships with a capacity of nearly 5,000 guests each, starting in 2030. Oceania Cruises will welcome the final Allura-class ship in 2025, followed by two 86,000-gross-ton ships in a new class in 2027 and 2029. Regent Seven Seas Cruises is also in line to receive two 77,000-gross-ton ships in 2026 and 2029.
NCLH CEO Harry Sommer emphasized that these new ship orders will bring cutting-edge vessels into their fleet, facilitating long-term growth and enhancing operational efficiencies. The company aims to leverage its scale, promote innovation, and offer guests new products and experiences. Each brand within NCLH will design their new ship classes to be the largest, most efficient, and innovative vessels in their respective fleets, with a strong commitment to advancing decarbonization efforts.
While the order prices for the new ships were not disclosed, NCLH mentioned that they have secured export credit financing to cover 80% of the contract price for the two Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises ships. Financing for the Norwegian Cruise Line ships is currently in progress. The construction of the two-ship pier at Great Stirrup Cay is expected to support the company’s expanding presence in the Caribbean, with work scheduled to commence this summer and completion targeted for late 2025.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ strategic investments in fleet expansion and infrastructure improvements demonstrate their commitment to future growth and innovation within the cruise industry. By focusing on introducing state-of-the-art vessels and enhancing guest experiences, NCLH is positioning itself for success in the years to come.
