A coalition of states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, and more, have signed memoranda alongside DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg to collaborate on enhancing consumer protection. Moreover, several other states like Delaware, Massachusetts, and Washington have expressed interest in joining this initiative. The collective goal is to ensure that consumers are treated fairly, informed about their rights, and receive the services they pay for when traveling by air.

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser emphasized the importance of this partnership in directly assisting consumers. He stated that this collaboration would allow his office to address complaints from Colorado residents regarding unfair airline practices. Furthermore, it establishes a mechanism for the DOT to prioritize complaints referred by state attorneys general, ensuring that consumer grievances are addressed promptly and effectively.

The DOT acknowledges that additional support from state investigators will alleviate the workload on the Office of Aviation Consumer Protection, which currently operates with a limited staff count.
