Universal Orlando Resort is set to introduce a new world called Dark Universe as part of the upcoming Epic Universe theme park. This world will be dedicated to bringing iconic monsters such as Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Bride of Frankenstein to life. In addition to these legendary creatures, Dark Universe will also feature new characters that are sure to excite guests.
Guests will enter Dark Universe through a portal crackling with electricity, symbolizing the gathering of dark energy. Upon emerging from the portal, they will find themselves in Darkmoor, a village designed to immerse visitors in the world of monsters and experiments. Universal promises that Darkmoor will provide family-friendly entertainment while also pushing the boundaries of intensity in a way that is uniquely Universal.
At the heart of Dark Universe lies Frankenstein Manor, the focal point of the world. Within this manor, guests will experience a dark ride known as Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, touted as Universal’s “most chilling ride ever.” The attraction will highlight a new character, Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, who follows in her ancestor’s footsteps by conducting experiments in her laboratory. However, things take a terrifying turn when her attempt to control Dracula goes awry, resulting in the release of a horde of angry monsters including the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Curse of the Werewolf
Dark Universe will also feature a spinning family roller coaster called Curse of the Werewolf, located in the woods on the outskirts of Darkmoor. The ride takes inspiration from “The Wolf Man” and is introduced by the character Maleva, the seer and leader of the Guild of Mystics. As riders navigate the coaster through the forest, they must escape the clutches of the werewolves that lurk within.
Monster Makeup Experience and Meet-and-Greets
For those seeking a more immersive experience in Darkmoor, the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience offers guests the opportunity to transform into monsters through temporary tattoos and elaborate face paint. Additionally, guests can interact with characters such as Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride of Frankenstein during meet-and-greets throughout Dark Universe. Themed eateries within Darkmoor, such as Das Stakehaus and Burning Blade Tavern, provide delicious dining options for visitors looking to indulge in a vampire-infested feast.
Retail and Merchandise
Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities will serve as Dark Universe’s main retail location, offering merchandise themed to the world of monsters. Guests can also browse and purchase Dark Universe merchandise at the Universal Epic Universe Preview Center in Universal CityWalk. The creation of Dark Universe is a collaborative effort between Universal Creative and Universal Pictures, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience for park visitors.
