My first encounter with Anguilla’s Meads Bay was over two decades ago. The pristine shoreline left a lasting impression on me, and I was eager to revisit this idyllic destination. Upon my return earlier this year, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Meads Bay still retained its charm, despite some developments over the years. The wide, uncrowded beaches bordered by coastal grasses and shrubs were just as picturesque as I remembered.
One noticeable change on Meads Bay was the addition of tasteful developments, including more dining options ranging from upscale restaurants to casual beachside eateries. This influx of new establishments added to the overall appeal of the area, providing visitors with a variety of culinary experiences. Despite these developments, Meads Bay maintained its uncrowded ambiance, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful beach getaway.
During my stay, I had the opportunity to experience two distinct luxury accommodations on Meads Bay. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla, located at the western end of the bay, offered a range of upscale rooms, suites, villas, and townhouses. The property exuded elegance and sophistication, with impeccable service and breathtaking waterfront views. The breakfast buffet was exceptional, and the resort’s dining options catered to a wide range of tastes.
Another highlight of my trip was staying at Tranquility Beach, a boutique property with only 12 suites and three villas. Despite its smaller size, the resort provided top-notch service, including beach butlers and personalized experiences. The option to have a local celebrity chef cook a meal in your unit added a unique touch to the stay, allowing guests to savor the local flavors of Anguilla. Additionally, the property’s convenient location made it easy to explore nearby attractions and dining venues.
At the eastern end of Meads Bay lies the iconic Malliouhana, Anguilla’s original five-star resort. Established in 1984, the property exuded a sense of Caribbean charm with its colonial-inspired decor. During my visit, I was impressed by the hotel’s rich history and commitment to preserving its heritage. The nearby Relais & Chateaux member Quintessence provided an excellent dining alternative, showcasing a diverse range of culinary influences.
While there are several five-star properties scattered across Anguilla, the true allure of Meads Bay lies in its sense of community and natural beauty. Beyond luxurious accommodations and gourmet dining options, the shoreline of Meads Bay offers a unique experience that brings visitors together to celebrate the island’s idyllic setting. Whether enjoying a leisurely stroll along the beach or indulging in a decadent meal prepared by a local chef, Meads Bay captures the essence of Anguilla’s hospitality and charm.
