Walt Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground has been a go-to destination for nature-loving guests looking to immerse themselves in the great outdoors. With activities such as horseback riding, archery, fishing, and campfire sing-alongs, this sprawling 750-acre forest offers a unique experience for visitors. One of the highlights of staying at Fort Wilderness is the option to choose from 350 cabins, as well as bringing your own lodging, ranging from canvas tents to recreational vehicles. Disney has recently revamped its cabin offerings, moving away from the traditional pioneer-style log cabins to more contemporary shed-style structures, catering to the preferences of 21st-century guests.
The new cabins at Fort Wilderness have undergone a significant transformation, both in terms of design and amenities. The cabins now feature a vibrant color palette, with tones of blue, tan, green, or orange-red, making them visually appealing and distinct from the surrounding woods. The shed-style cabins offer clerestory windows on three sides, in addition to floor-to-ceiling windows in the main living and dining area, allowing for ample natural light and creating a more spacious feel. These 504-square-foot cabins include a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, lounge with a sofa and wall-mounted TV, bathroom, and a bedroom with a queen bed and two bunk beds. While Disney suggests a maximum occupancy of six adults, a family of four or five might find the space more comfortable.
The new cabins at Fort Wilderness boast upgraded amenities, including a full stove with an oven, a full-size refrigerator, a built-in microwave, a dishwasher, and a versatile coffeemaker. The decor is themed to reflect the wilderness, with subtle Disney references scattered throughout the design. From a Chip ‘n’ Dale mural to a backlit mirror with a Nov. 19 calendar page (the date Fort Wilderness opened in 1971), the cabins combine modern condo aesthetics with Western-inspired touches. Practical additions like a second vanity sink outside the bathroom and a tuck-away booster step for kids in the bathroom add to the convenience of the space.
Situated in seven loops near the resort entrance, the cabins offer a degree of privacy and tranquility that some guests find lacking in the camping areas. While the cabins are further away from the beach area and boat shuttles to the Magic Kingdom, they are in close proximity to the stables, bus depot, main dining hall, tavern, convenience store, swimming pool, and laundry room. Guests can enjoy the serene surroundings of Fort Wilderness, with the distant sound of Magic Kingdom boat horns gently echoing in the background. The resort also offers a range of activities such as a dog park, carriage rides, fishing excursions, and the popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner and show for guests to enjoy.
The newly renovated cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort offer guests a modern and comfortable retreat amidst the beauty of the outdoors. With upgraded amenities, themed decor, and a convenient location near key attractions, these cabins provide a unique and memorable experience for guests visiting Walt Disney World.
