Are you a blueberry enthusiast? Well, get ready to showcase your love for this delicious summer fruit and potentially win a nice bonus. July is National Blueberry Month, and the US Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) is celebrating in style with two exciting contests designed to engage and delight blueberry fans. The first-ever Great American Blueberry Eating Championship is set to take place on Saturday, July 13, in Grand Rapids, MI. The event will be hosted on the blue courts of MPL’s mid-season pickleball tournament, making it a truly thematic affair. Blueberries even hold the title of being the official fruit of Major League Pickleball – a fitting tribute to their popularity.
Participating in the Contest
Professional eaters will compete to set the record for the most blueberries ever eaten in a contest. While there is no existing record for this particular event, past competitions provide some context for the challenge ahead. For example, in July 2007, Patrick Bertoletti consumed 9.17 lbs of blueberry pie in just eight minutes. To put this into perspective, a pound of fresh blueberries equals roughly 200 berries. Therefore, competitors may have to devour over 1000 blueberries to stand a chance at winning. The competition is open to anyone 18 years and older who is willing to sign a waiver. The first place winner will walk away with $4,000, followed by $2,000 for second place, $1,250 for third place, $500 for fourth place, and $250 for the fifth place.
The Great American Blueberry Eating Championship is just one of many exciting eating competitions organized by Major League Eating (MLE). Hosting events such as the annual Fourth of July Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, MLE is known for its thrilling contests that push the boundaries of competitive eating. Some upcoming events to look out for include The Great Midwest Rib Fest World Rib-Eating Championship on July 27 in Prior Lake, Minnesota, and The 2024 World Slopper Eating Championship at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo on August 31. These competitions offer a unique platform for individuals to showcase their eating prowess and potentially earn cash prizes.
For those who are unable to attend the blueberry eating competition but still want to celebrate National Blueberry Month, there is an online contest offering a grand prize of $10,000. Instagram users can participate by posting a video of themselves eating fresh blueberries in a creative and unique way. Participants must tag @blueberries and use #blueberrychallenge during the month of July to enter the contest. This online competition is a fun way to engage with the blueberry community and potentially win a substantial cash prize.
