The World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA), Association of Canadian Travel Agencies and Travel Advisors (ACTA), and Foro Latinoamericano de Turismo (FOLATUR) have all issued statements condemning American Airlines’ actions.

The primary concerns raised by ASTA revolve around American Airlines’ decision to remove certain fares from legacy distribution systems, making them exclusively available through New Distribution Capability (NDC) connections. Additionally, the airline’s requirement for travel agencies to achieve preferred status before customers’ bookings can earn loyalty points has sparked further outrage.

The controversial move by American Airlines to restrict loyalty point eligibility from numerous agency bookings has been met with strong opposition. ACTA president Wendy Paradis expressed that this restriction will inevitably put consumers at a disadvantage. This sentiment was echoed by ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby, who emphasized the detrimental impact American’s actions could have on the global travel industry.
