Jonathan Bennett to be Godfather of Carnival Firenze

Actor Jonathan Bennett, best known for his roles in “Mean Girls” and various Hallmark Channel movies, has been chosen to be the godfather of the Carnival Firenze. This Italian-themed ship, the second of its kind acquired from Costa, will set sail from Long Beach, Calif., on April 25. With a capacity of over 5,000 guests, the Carnival Firenze will offer Mexican Rivera itineraries.

Although not of Italian descent, Bennett has a strong connection to Carnival Cruise Line, having embarked on his honeymoon on one of their ships. His passion for cruising and his friendly relationship with Carnival led to him being selected as the godfather of the Firenze. Previously, comedian Jay Leno had served as the godfather for the Carnival Venezia, the Firenze’s sister ship.

Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy expressed her delight in having Bennett as the godfather of the Carnival Firenze. She shared that Bennett had expressed his dream of fulfilling such a role after sailing on the Carnival Venezia. Duffy explained that she surprised Bennett during one of his rehearsals with the offer, capturing the heartwarming moment on video.

Bennett’s career has been varied, starting with a role in the soap opera “All My Children” before transitioning to the big screen with “Mean Girls.” His acting credits extend to Hallmark Channel movies, television shows like MTV’s “Copycat,” and hosting duties for events such as New York Times Square New Year’s Eve. Currently, Bennett can be seen on Broadway in the revival of “Spamalot.”

In 2021, Bennett and his husband, Jaymes Vaughan, launched an LGBTQ+ cruise company, further solidifying their commitment to the community. This new venture adds to Bennett’s already diverse range of projects in both the entertainment industry and the travel sector.

Jonathan Bennett’s selection as the godfather of the Carnival Firenze is a fitting tribute to his contributions to the world of entertainment and his special connection to Carnival Cruise Line. As he prepares to christen the ship in Long Beach, Calif., Bennett’s fans and supporters eagerly await this exciting milestone in his flourishing career.
