Racing Waterslides and Floating Cabanas: A Closer Look at Carnival Cruise Line’s Celebration Key Family Area

Carnival Cruise Line is set to debut a brand new private beach destination, Celebration Key, on Grand Bahama in July 2025. Among the exciting offerings at this $500 million development is Starfish Lagoon, a designated family area that promises a plethora of entertainment options for guests of all ages. From a sprawling beach to a freshwater pool, from thrilling waterslides to sports and gaming areas, Starfish Lagoon is designed to cater to every member of the family.

One of the highlights of Starfish Lagoon is the inclusion of two record-breaking water slides, each nearly the length of a football field at over 350 feet. These adrenaline-pumping slides, named Flash Flamingo and Mach III Marlin, will wrap around the 10-story “Suncastle” that serves as the centerpiece of Celebration Key. Riders will have the opportunity to race each other down the slides, experiencing flashes of light and color along the way.

For the younger guests at Starfish Lagoon, there will be a splash pad known as the Guppy Grotto. This toddler-friendly area features a coral reef theme, complete with a two-foot-deep pool, water toys, dump buckets, and interactive features. Parents can relax in shaded seating nearby while their little ones play, with the added bonus of an adjacent ice cream shop for sweet treats. Additionally, the Game Pavilion will offer table games such as foosball, ping pong, and cornhole, ensuring endless entertainment for the whole family.

A unique feature of Starfish Lagoon is the availability of 12 rentable floating cabanas known as AquaBanas. These spacious floating retreats can accommodate up to eight people, providing a private oasis on the water. Complete with a table for drinks, non-slip surfaces, and easy access to the lagoon, AquaBanas offer a luxurious way to enjoy the sun and sea. Guests can also opt for traditional cabanas and daybeds for a more laid-back experience.

While Starfish Lagoon caters to families, adults also have their own dedicated spaces at Celebration Key. A swim-up bar, hammocks next to the Suncastle, and a stretch of beach are just a few of the options available for adult guests to unwind and relax. Additionally, visitors can enjoy kayak and paddleboard rentals, beach activities like Frisbee and sandcastle building, as well as various dining options including restaurants, snack shacks, bar shacks, and Bahamian food trucks.

In addition to Starfish Lagoon, Celebration Key will feature four distinct areas known as portals. These include the Calypso Lagoon, with a section reserved for adults, Lokono Cove retail area, and the Paradise Plaza entrance area. Carnival Cruise Line has also teased an upcoming adults-only private retreat, details of which are yet to be unveiled. With expectations of 2.2 million guests in 2025 and projected growth to 4 million by 2028, Celebration Key is poised to become a premier vacation destination in the Bahamas.
