Cruise lines operating in the Caribbean have been forced to make significant alterations to their itineraries due to the looming threat of Hurricane Ernesto. The Norwegian Breakaway, which initially set sail from Miami on an Eastern Caribbean route, has since rerouted to the Western Caribbean. This unexpected change now includes stops at Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; as well as the cruise line’s private destination in Belize, Harvest Caye.
Similarly, the Norwegian Sky’s planned voyage out of Miami, which was designed for an Eastern Caribbean journey, has been redirected to the Western Caribbean instead. Passengers will now have the opportunity to explore Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, Jamaica, in addition to the previously mentioned destinations.
The impact of Hurricane Ernesto is also evident in the alterations made to the Norwegian Joy’s Bermuda cruise itinerary. Originally scheduled to arrive in Bermuda on a specific date, the cruise ship is now set to dock one day earlier than planned. Despite this change, passengers will still get to enjoy a two-day stay at the Royal Naval Dockyard before departing on the revised schedule.
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas and Rhapsody of the Seas have not been spared from the hurricane’s influence either. The Icon of the Seas is currently navigating a Western Caribbean itinerary as opposed to its initial plan for an Eastern Caribbean voyage. Meanwhile, the Rhapsody of the Seas has had to rearrange the order of its port visits, resulting in an adjusted schedule with various stops across the Caribbean region.
Unexpected Destinations
The Symphony of the Seas has been redirected to visit Nassau in the Bahamas instead of its original destination, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This change in itinerary showcases the cruise line’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its passengers in the face of unpredictable weather conditions.
Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Pride and Carnival Magic have also experienced shifts in their schedules. The Carnival Pride’s Bermuda cruise departed one day earlier than planned, allowing passengers to spend two days exploring the island before setting sail once again. Likewise, the Carnival Magic, operating an Eastern Caribbean route from Miami, had to cancel a scheduled stop in San Juan and add a visit to Nassau to accommodate the revised itinerary.
Hurricane Ernesto has undoubtedly disrupted the normal operations of various cruise lines in the Caribbean, leading to changes in itineraries and destinations. Despite these unforeseen challenges, the cruise industry continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of its passengers, ensuring that every effort is made to minimize the impact of such natural disasters on travel plans.
