The Transformation of Firenze: Carnival’s Italian-inspired Ship

Carnival Cruise Line recently acquired the Firenze from its sister line, Costa Cruises. This handover event took place in Cadiz, Spain, marking the beginning of an exciting transformation process. Over the next two months, Carnival will be refurbishing the ship and adding its own special features. The newly renovated vessel will then be known as the Carnival Firenze, honoring the beautiful city of Florence, Italy.

The Firenze is not the first Costa ship to undergo the “Carnival Fun, Italian Style” transformation. In fact, the Venezia, which is based in New York, underwent a similar refurbishment last year. Just like its predecessor, the Firenze will be designed with Italian influences throughout. The ship’s atrium, for example, will be modeled after the famous Piazza del Duomo, while the lido deck will draw inspiration from the stunning Italian Riviera.

As the Firenze is transformed into a Carnival ship, it will incorporate some of the popular features found on the Venezia. Guests can look forward to dining options such as La Strada Grill, which serves classic Italian street food, and Tomodor, a unique Mexitalian fusion restaurant. For those seeking a more upscale experience, the ship will also boast the fine-dining establishment, Il Viaggio.

Once the refurbishments are complete, the Carnival Firenze will commence its year-round sailings from Long Beach, California, starting on April 25th. The ship will offer a range of cruise durations, from three- and four-day trips to Mexico and Catalina Island, to longer five-, six-, and seven-day cruises to the Mexican Rivera. With this addition to the fleet, Carnival now boasts an impressive total of 27 ships.

The acquisition of the Firenze and the Venezia’s transformation into Carnival ships are part of a larger strategic move by Carnival Corp. This transformation process not only allows Carnival to expand its offerings but also taps into the global popularity of Italian-inspired experiences. By combining the fun and excitement of Carnival with the rich cultural influences of Italy, the cruise line creates a unique and appealing experience for passengers.

The transformation of the Firenze into the Carnival Firenze signifies Carnival Cruise Line’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences for its guests. With its strong Italian influences, this reimagined ship offers passengers the chance to immerse themselves in the beauty of Florence while enjoying the renowned Carnival atmosphere. From its Italian-inspired design elements to its diverse dining options, the Carnival Firenze promises to delight cruisers and showcase the best of both Carnival and Italian cultures.
