The 300 Restaurant Enterprise Index companies by location count
Snapshot of the live REI on September 30, 2026. Numbered entries 1 through 300 follow the REI’s order by estimated U.S. and Canada restaurant locations. Where displayed location counts are equal, the live REI uses estimated sales to determine the order. Figures are rounded.
Latest REI additions: 25 company profiles added September 29, 2026.
Parent organizations and related companies may have overlapping location totals. These figures should not be added together as a count of distinct restaurants. Select any company name to open its profile.

Understanding the organization behind a restaurant
A restaurant name on a storefront may represent a brand, while the locations operate through a separate franchise organization. That brand may also belong to a concept parent or an investment group with interests in several restaurant companies. Each relationship answers a different business question.
The REI organizes those relationships so suppliers, distributors, technology companies, investors and researchers can identify the enterprise connected to a restaurant system. A franchise operator may manage restaurants under several brands, while a multi-concept company may own and develop several concepts. Understanding those distinctions helps readers assess company reach and decide which organization to research further.
Coverage includes familiar brands and companies such as Black Bear Diner, Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, Mellow Mushroom, Ruby Tuesday and Swiss Chalet, alongside organizations such as Emerge Restaurants, Guernsey Holdings, Happy Group, Quality Brand Group and Warner Food Management.
A common framework for company research
The Restaurant Data Dictionary provides the definitions behind the research, including company types, ownership relationships and operating fields. Those definitions form the backbone of the REI and help readers interpret records consistently as coverage expands.
Readers can search the live index and filter by service type and primary cuisine. Linked profiles provide company summaries, headquarters information, geographic coverage and estimated scale, with ownership relationships shown where established. Profile review dates make the timing of the research visible.
Enterprise coverage generally begins near 100 restaurant locations. Operating structure, ownership relationships, franchise activity and concept portfolios can also support inclusion at another size.
Connecting development activity with enterprise structure
The REI is part of the broader RestaurantData Research Center. The Expansion Pressure Index™ follows verified development activity through earlier growth cohorts, while the REI follows enterprise organization and ownership as companies become more complex.
Together, the research helps readers follow the progression from individual restaurant development signals to the companies and operating structures behind sustained growth. Subscribers to Atlas by RestaurantData can explore the broader company and location records behind the public profiles.
Human researchers lead verification and review
RestaurantData develops profiles from company disclosures, public filings, franchise documentation, company websites, state business registries, location research and proprietary verification. In-house researchers review company relationships before they enter the connected record and revisit profiles as operating information changes. Companies can request to be added to the index as well as request corrections and adjustments to their profile.
Location and sales figures are estimates where a company does not publish one current figure. Parent organizations, operating companies and their brands may appear as separate profiles, and their location totals can overlap. Those totals should not be added together as a count of distinct restaurants. A profile review date identifies when the profile was reviewed; individual figures may reflect different source periods.
