The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* is Here: A New Scene+ Card Arrives

Let's Go!

2026 is shaping up to be an interesting year in Canada for new credit card products, and Tangerine has just announced the launch of its newest card, the Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®*.

In a unique twist, the new Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard® earns Scene+ Points on all purchases, in addition to offering a couple of travel benefits. While Tangerine is a subsidiary of Scotiabank, it is still very interesting to see a product that earns Scene+ Points outside of the usual Scotiabank ecosystem.

Let’s get into all of the finer details of this new credit card.

The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* is Now Available!

The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* has a welcome bonus of up to 40,000 Scene+ Points, broken into the following tranches:

  • Earn 30,000 Scene+ points upon spending $3,000 in the first 3 months*
  • Earn 10,000 Scene+ points upon spending $30,000 in the first year*

This card earns Scene+ Points on all purchases and is the first card outside of the Scotiabank ecosystem to earn these valuable points. Cardholders will earn:

  • 1.5 Scene+ Points per dollar spent in three accelerator categories chosen by the cardholder. Accelerator categories can be switched every 90 days.
    • Accelerator categories include: grocery, restaurants, gas, public transportation and parking, entertainment, furniture, home improvement, hotel-motel, drug store, recurring bill payments, e-games, fitness and sports clubs, and foreign currency spend.
  • 1 Scene+ Point per dollar spent on everything else.

The card has an annual fee of $120 and income requirements that are identical to those of other World Elite Mastercards, requiring $80,000 in annual personal income or $150,000 in annual household income.

Benefits of the Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®*

Four Annual Complimentary Airport Lounge Passes

Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* cardholders are eligible to receive a complimentary membership to the Mastercard Travel Pass program, which offers access to airport lounges within the Dragonpass lounge program. Cardholders receive four annual complimentary airport lounge passes that can be used for this program.

Airport lounges are a coveted travel benefit, as passengers look to avoid high food and beverage prices in the terminal prior to their flight. While the quality can vary across lounges, hot food and cold beverages are the minimum you can expect to receive, all while paying nothing out of pocket to access these spaces with the Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®*.

Insurance Coverages

The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* offers the following insurance coverages:

  • Travel emergency medical insurance
  • Trip cancellation insurance
  • Trip interruption insurance
  • Flight delay insurance
  • Baggage delay/loss insurance
  • Hotel/motel burglary insurance
  • Rental car collision/loss damage insurance
  • Mobile device insurance
  • Event ticket protection insurance
  • Purchase assurance
  • Extended warranty

Refer to the certificate of insurance for additional details, including terms and conditions for eligibility.

The Value of the Scene+ Program

I’ve been a big fan of the Scene+ program for many years. Not that long ago, I wrote an article about the Scene+ program being the best program for general travel redemptions. This still stands true, and I believe that Scene+ is one of the most accessible and easily understandable points-based loyalty programs for the majority of Canadians.

The fact that you can redeem Scene+ Points at a rate of 100 Scene+ Points = $1 CAD towards any eligible travel purchase made on your eligible credit card makes it a massive winner. No more worrying about perfect redemptions, and if you are already a heavy miles and points traveler, you can use Scene+ points to save money on expenses that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise, such as a train ticket on the ÖBB NightJet or on your seaplane flight to Le Meridien Maldives.

Similarly, Scene+ Points can be great to use towards independent hotels, rental cars, and even flights if you perhaps need to book a positioning flight before your next international adventure. The key takeaway here is that redeeming them for any travel redemption offers great value, and for that reason, I think Scene+ is a program every Canadian should want to participate in.

Even if you aren’t a traveller, there is equally great value in redeeming Scene+ Points at many partners, including participating grocery stores, liquor stores, Cineplex theatres, and more. For the most part, no matter how you redeem, you can expect to receive excellent value from your points without a ton of additional legwork or understanding required.

Who Is The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* For?

The Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* is a good middle-tier credit card for Canadians who want to customize their bonus earning categories and receive a couple of travel benefits. For the infrequent traveler, four annual airport lounge passes can be a game-changer if they didn’t have complimentary airport lounge access previously, especially considering the card comes in with a low annual fee of $120.

With the launch of this new card, Tangerine has kept consistent with their strategy on their two existing credit cards, the Tangerine Money-Back World Mastercard and the Tangerine Money-Back Mastercard, in allowing cardholders to select up to three accelerator categories that will earn them more Scene+ Points on their monthly purchases. Being able to choose earning categories can be particularly lucrative if you spend a lot in an atypical category that isn’t represented by most credit cards.

Conclusion

I think the Tangerine® Rewards World Elite Mastercard®* is an exciting new addition to the Canadian credit card landscape, and unique in the sense that it is the first non-Scotiabank card to offer Scene+ points as its primary rewards currency. With its customizable earning categories and travel benefits for a reasonable annual fee, I wouldn’t be surprised to find many Canadians adding this card to their wallet.
