Air Canada and Ponta Delgada Airport Enhance Connections Between Azores and North America

Air Canada and the Portuguese authorities, as well as representatives from the tourism and business sectors, today celebrated the launch of a new direct summer service starting from 12 June between Ponta Delgada’s João Paulo II Airport (PDL) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), enhancing connectivity between the Azores and Canada. The event took place at the João Paulo II Airport in Azores.

The new service will operate three times per week throughout the summer season, offering customers a convenient direct connection between Ponta Delgada and Toronto in just over six hours. Flights will depart Ponta Delgada every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with return services from Toronto on Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Mr. Rocky Lo, Managing Director of International Sales at Air Canada, said, “We are delighted to launch our new direct service between Ponta Delgada and Toronto, further strengthening the ties between the Azores, Portugal and Canada. This route will improve access for travellers visiting friends, family and the islands, as well as supporting the growth of tourism and business links across both regions. It also strengthens onward connectivity through Air Canada’s wider network, making transatlantic travel more efficient and accessible for our customers.”

Through Air Canada’s Toronto hub, passengers travelling from Ponta Delgada will benefit from seamless onward connections to destinations across Canada, the United States and South America. Popular onward destinations include Montréal, Vancouver, Cancún, Bogotá, Mexico, and Brazil, all accessible through a single booking and a convenient transfer experience.

Passengers connecting onwards to the United States via Canada can also take advantage of U.S. Customs and Immigration preclearance facilities in Toronto, allowing them to complete formalities before departure and arrive in the U.S. as domestic passengers.

The service will be operated on Air Canada’s modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with the choice of two cabin options: Premium Economy and Economy.

Customers can also benefit from Aeroplan, Air Canada’s loyalty programme, which enables members to earn and redeem points across the airline’s global network and a wide range of partner airlines, with the flexibility to combine points with cash.
