Thai Aviation Industries (TAI), Edgewater Solutions and Amadeus have signed a memorandum of understanding.

The MOU states the parties’ intention to collaborate on a roadmap for the modernisation of the passenger journey and day-to-day airport operations across international and regional airports across Thailand.

This comes as Thailand continues to invest in airport capacity and service quality to support growing demand for air travel and tourism.

Thailand airports currently serve approximately 140 million passengers annually, with volumes expected to keep rising.

Through the collaboration, the parties will look at how seamless travel, biometrics, airport operations and data capabilities could work together across the passenger journey and the operations behind it to help airport stakeholders coordinate operations more effectively and improve passenger flow across key touchpoints.

Areas of collaboration include:

  • Faster passenger processing – including self-service and off-airport check-in, automated bag drop and real-time baggage reconciliation
  • Seamless identity and border flows – including e-Gates, biometrics and identity verification and free-flow passenger processing
  • Smarter airport operations – including a centralized Airport Operational Database (AODB), resource management, flight information displays and apron and ground-movement management
  • Real-time data and platform integration – connecting passenger journey analytics and operational data to support faster decision-making and more dynamic airport operations

“Thailand’s airports are vital gateways for tourism and trade. Modernising them is central to our ambition to deliver a world-class experience for every passenger and strengthen Thailand’s position as a leading aviation hub in Southeast Asia.

“Working with Amadeus and Edgewater gives us access to leading technology, services and knowledge to enhance the journey through Thailand airports while making our operations more efficient and resilient,” said Piboon Vorravanpreecha, managing director, TAI.

Under the MOU, the parties will now work together to define the detailed scope, phasing and technical specifications for potential deployments across the identified solution areas.

“Airports are under pressure to serve more passengers while delivering smoother, more reliable journeys.

“This collaboration is about connecting the technologies, data and partners needed to make that possible.

“By combining Amadeus’ deep industry understanding and airport, biometric identity and cloud platform capabilities with TAI’s vision and Edgewater’s delivery expertise, we can help shape the next generation of airport operations: more connected, more efficient and more resilient,” said Javier Laforgue, managing director, Asia-Pacific, Amadeus.
