Canadian Travel to the U.S. Snaps 14-Month Losing Streak

Canadian travel to the U.S. posted its first year-over-year gain in 15 months in April, with Canadian-resident return trips up 1.4%, according to Statistics Canada. But the recovery is uneven — car travel rose 5.8% while air travel fell 8.1%.

Nearly half of all Canadian travel to the U.S. typically comes from same-day vehicle trips.

The monthly increase does not mean there is a resurgence in demand for travel to the U.S. Because the declines began accelerating last spring, the gain this April was off a low base.
