CASA LAWA brings cult design-led dining experience to Rondo with Monkey Shoulder | News
This August, Rondo, the produce-led, seasonally inspired restaurant within The Hoxton, Holborn, is teaming up with guesthouse, creative space and culinary residency CASA LAWA, in partnership with Monkey Shoulder, to bring a taste of its technicolour Sicilian lifestyle to the capital. The collaboration marks the launch of the Long Lunch Club, the first in an ongoing series of Rondo Residencies that will see the restaurant partner with exciting dining concepts and design-driven tastemakers from around the world.
Across three long Saturday afternoons in August, Rondo will take on a distinctly Mediterranean feel, with CASA LAWA bringing its laidback, nostalgic charm to London for the first time. CASA LAWA founder Lukas Lewandowski has worked closely with Rondo Head Chef Tristan Downes to develop a menu that celebrates the best of British produce, shot through with a joyful slice of la dolce vita.
The menu marries Rondo’s experimental, ingredient-focused approach with the bright, sun-soaked flavours of Sicily, celebrating the simplicity of seasonal ingredients treated with care and creativity. Each course is complemented with expertly crafted Monkey Shoulder cocktails inspired by southern Italy, with bright, fruity flavours including apricot, prickly pear, peach, sour cherry and lemon.
The long lunch begins with rosemary sea salt focaccia and Sicilian arancini, followed by heirloom tomatoes with salted anchovy, barba di frate, young olive oil and fresh basil, alongside stone bass crudo with pickled nectarine. Mains include lemon and oregano Sutton Hoo chicken with peppers agrodolce, and Pasta alla Norma with ricotta, pangrattato and rosemary oil, accompanied by honey and chilli roasted young potatoes and a green salad of foraged wild herbs and flowers. Prickly pear granita with lemon verbena Chantilly gelato and tiramisu with poached plums provide a fitting finale, balancing vibrant, fresh flavours with rich indulgence.
Accompanied by CASA LAWA’s own soundtrack, there’s no need to rush off. With just one sitting each afternoon, guests are encouraged to settle in, order another round of Monkey Shoulder cocktails and savour the afternoon at their leisure surrounded by the retreat’s unmistakable aesthetic, with colourful tablescapes, relaxed styling and playful design details, including textiles from Colours of Arley.
Tables are available for groups of four to eight, while solo diners, couples and trios are welcomed at The Long Table, a communal dining experience at the heart of the restaurant. The Long Lunch Club with CASA LAWA will take place from 12pm on Saturday 15, 22 & 29 August. Bookings open on Monday 13 July, with the menu priced at £59 per person, or £69 per person including a welcome drink. Throughout August, CASA LAWA will also take up residency in the lobby of The Hoxton, Holborn, serving up the Mortadella Beach Sarnie as part of the ongoing Hox Sarnie Series. Giving those who miss the Long Lunch Club a chance to experience a taste of the guesthouse and kitchen, the sandwich transports guests straight to the Sicilian seafront. Served on toasted focaccia, it layers thinly sliced mortadella with creamy stracciatella, fresh peaches, CASA LAWA’s garden pesto, chilli oil, lemon zest and a sprinkle of sea salt for £15, or paired with Monkey Shoulder’s peachy spin on a Tom Collins for £25.
