Indian Companies Respond After Modi’s Call to Stay Home

Within days of Prime Minister Modi asking Indians to cut back on foreign travel and destination weddings, Indian companies were quick to respond.
EaseMyTrip took out front-page advertisements across major newspapers to promote a campaign called “Skip the Visa, Discover Bharat.”
RPG Group, an industrial and services conglomerate, issued an internal note to employees curtailing foreign travel to the bare minimum. Domestic air travel would also be reduced significantly, with a cut back on intercity meetings and conferences. Harsh Goenka, RPG’s chairman, framed it as corporate India doing its part during a period of global economic strain.
EaseMyTrip CEO and co-founder Rikant Pittie said the campaign predates Modi’s call.
“It is not a reactive campaign, it reflects a long-term structural opportunity around strengthening domestic tourism and improving discoverability of Indian destinations,” Pittie told Skift.
