Intrepid Buys French Tour Operator Altaï — Its Biggest Acquisition

One year after acquiring Dutch tour operator Sawadee Reizen, Intrepid Travel continues its European expansion with the purchase of French adventure travel company Altaï Group.
The acquisition is Melbourne-based Intrepid’s largest to date, adding more than $71.5 million (AU$100 million) in revenue and 35,000 annual customers — enough to make France its fourth-largest global market behind Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company did not disclose the purchase price.
Intrepid is looking for more deals. CEO James Thornton, who spoke to Skift while on a trip to Europe to search for other opportunities, aims to close one around the first quarter of 2027 and continue to push Intrepid into at least one new market per year.
