New Foundation, Fundació Camiral Supports Futures Of People And Places In Legacy Commitment | News

Camiral, Spain’s leading luxury golf and wellness resort, is proud to announce the establishment of the Fundació Camiral, a long-term initiative designed to support young people, support local communities, and protect the natural environment across the Costa Brava region.
The Fundació Camiral forms a central part of Camiral’s Ryder Cup 2031 legacy commitment, as the resort prepares to welcome one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events to Continental Europe in Barcelona for only the second time in history.
Set within a 540-hectare forested estate just one hour north of Barcelona, Camiral is collaborating with neighbouring municipalities and specialist organisations to deliver long-term programmes focused on education, employment, youth sport and biodiversity conservation.
The Fundació Camiral has a clear purpose: to ensure the long-term prosperity of the region in parallel with the global visibility and economic impact generated by the Ryder Cup, centred around three pillars:
1. Education, Mentorship and Vocational Pathways
Camiral is working with Impulsa Foundation to support young people from Caldes de Malavella, Sils and Vilobí in accessing education, mentorship and vocational opportunities. The programme is designed to improve equality of opportunity for young people in socially and economically vulnerable situations, with Camiral funding scholarships and training support to build long-term pathways into education and employment.
2. Golf for the Next Generation
Since 2025, Camiral has provided complimentary golf tuition for children and young people from local schools through its PGA National Academy. The Fundació Camiral will expand this activity further to introduce new generations to golf in an accessible and inclusive way by encouraging participation from an early age and opening pathways into careers in golf, sport and luxury hospitality – sectors that are increasingly central to the region’s tourism economy.
3. Biodiversity and Natural Environment
Environmental stewardship has been embedded at Camiral for over a decade and is overseen in collaboration with the environmental organisation Conservation of Natural Ecosystems (CEN). The resort’s land management approach differs significantly from traditional golf course maintenance and aligns with the European Green Deal and the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030. Since 2015, Camiral has integrated biodiversity-led practices into its daily operations, managing its estate more like a protected natural reserve than a conventional resort landscape. The estate is now home to more than 130 species of birds, alongside protected and threatened species including eels, fire salamanders, western barn owls and otters, as well as a wide range of invertebrates and native plant life. Camiral also acts as a natural ecological corridor, connecting surrounding protected areas including Sils Lake and Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, strengthening biodiversity across the wider region.
Pathway to the Ryder Cup 2031
The announcement comes as anticipation builds for the Ryder Cup 2031, which will bring one of the most globally watched sporting events in golf to Spain for only the second time since 1997. The Fundació Camiral is positioned as a key part of this legacy, ensuring that the long-term benefits of the event extend beyond sport and tourism into meaningful social and environmental impact. As Camiral prepares to welcome international teams, spectators and global media attention, the Foundation reflects a commitment to ensuring that the legacy of the Ryder Cup is defined not only by elite sport, but by lasting contribution to the people and places of Catalonia. Alongside its two championship golf courses, state-of-the-art Wellness Centre and award-winning culinary programme, the resort continues to position itself as one of Europe’s leading destinations for luxury travel, golf and gastronomy.
