Niseko Village Unveils Landmark Gondola Transformation for Winter 2026

A new era of alpine adventure begins in Winter 2026 as YTL Hotels’  Niseko Village unveils its long-anticipated gondola upgrade. Designed with both comfort and discovery in mind, the next generation lift system promises to transform the mountain experience, offering guests smoother journeys, spectacular views and more time on the slopes.

Replacing the long-serving Mori-no Chair, which has carried skiers and snowboarders since the early 1980s, the new Mori-no Gondola will feature sleek cabins that more than double uplift capacity, while cocooning passengers in warmth and comfort. Divided into two sections with an intermediate station, the gondola has been designed for all-weather performance and will continue operating even when conditions at higher elevations become more challenging. Among its 86 cabins, four VIP cabins will feature tables for light dining, while two glass-floor cabins will offer a thrilling new perspective of Niseko’s snow-covered landscape.

The phased development adds a level of flexibility unique to Niseko. When the first section opens in December 2026, guests will be able to travel from the base area to the intermediate station. Upon completion of the second section in December 2027, the gondola will provide a seamless journey from base to summit without requiring passengers to change cabins. Guests will be able to choose whether to disembark at the intermediate station or continue to the summit, tailoring their journey according to snow conditions, weather and ability level.

The Wonderland Chair will also undergo a significant upgrade, transitioning from a single-seat lift to a two-person chairlift, further improving mountain access and circulation. Together, these enhancements will reduce waiting times, improve safety and provide guests with greater flexibility as they explore the mountain.

Beyond performance, the project reflects a deep respect for Niseko’s natural environment. By replacing five ageing lift systems with two modern gondola lines and a new chairlift, the resort will reduce its construction footprint while preserving the integrity of the mountain landscape and delivering a world-class lift experience.

“With these new gondolas, Niseko Village offers not just improved access, but an entirely new way to experience the mountain – combining comfort, style and sustainability,” said Shiau Wee Long, Chief Executive Officer, Niseko Village.

These upgrades reaffirm Niseko Village’s position among the world’s most inspiring year-round alpine destinations, setting a new benchmark for mountain travel in Japan.
