Results through efficiency: Wizz Air achieves industry-leading performance | News

Wizz Air has been named Most Sustainable Company in the European Low-Cost Airline Industry at the World Finance Sustainability Awards 2026.
The award recognised Wizz Air for achieving the lowest carbon emissions intensity[1] among European airlines. During the assessed period, Wizz Air achieved CO₂ emissions of 50.8 grams per revenue passenger kilometre (RPK). This performance was supported by its young fleet, high aircraft utilisation and high-density seating configuration. The airline operates 269 Airbus A320-family aircraft with an average fleet age of 4.5 years, making it one of the youngest fleets among major European airlines. Today, 75% of the fleet consists of new-generation neo aircraft, while the Airbus A321neo is configured with 239 seats, the highest seat density in the single-aisle market.
Wizz Air was also recognised for its broader ESG strategy, including continued investments in fleet modernisation, operational efficiency and preparations for the increased use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF[2]). The company’s approach prioritises reducing emissions intensity through operational and technological improvements, complemented by long-term initiatives to support the decarbonisation of aviation.
“This recognition reflects the efficiency embedded in our operating model,” said Dorottya Durucsko, Head of Sustainability and Government Affairs at Wizz Air. “Our emissions intensity is driven by a young, modern fleet, high seat density, strong utilisation and disciplined operations. These fundamentals make our operations more efficient on a per‑passenger basis. For us, sustainability is not a slogan, it is the result of consistently applying this model every day.”
