The beautiful game at sea: Survey reveals appetite for World Cup viewing | News

A new survey has revealed that a third (33%) of cruisers are attracted by the prospect of watching the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 while on a holiday at sea.
The survey, from online specialist cruise agency seascanner.co.uk, polled more than 400 customers.
When asked what makes watching the beautiful game at sea most appealing, 33% said ‘big screen and outdoor viewing’, with the same number opting for ‘socialising with other fans’. 19% stated that visiting multiple destinations during the action was a key factor.
Cruise lines such as Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Holland America Line will screen matches onboard this summer.
Tony Andrews, managing director at seascanner.co.uk, said: “Whether it’s cheering on your team from a giant outdoor screen, celebrating goals with fellow fans or following the action while travelling between destinations, cruises offer a brilliant atmosphere for supporters, with world-class amenities accompanying every kick. For football fans, it’s the ultimate way to sail through the tournament, and for cruise lines it’s a goal-den opportunity.
“While many guests enjoy the atmosphere of live sport onboard, cruises also offer the perfect escape for travellers looking to switch off completely, with spas, speciality dining, entertainment and destination experiences ensuring there’s something for everyone during the tournament.”
The tournament will be held in the US, Mexico and Canada and begins on June 11. It is set to be the largest World Cup in history, with 48 teams and 104 matches.
