World’s most stunning hidden nature gems revealed by travel experts | News

As travellers increasingly swap crowded tourist hotspots for quieter, more authentic experiences, new research has revealed the world’s most spectacular hidden nature gems.
The shift reflects a growing appetite for off-the-beaten-path travel. Recent travel trend research found that almost three in five (58%) of Brits now prioritise lesser-known destinations over traditional tourist hotspots. With this in mind, global Google searches for “hidden gem travel” have risen by 5,095 % over the past year, reflecting a growing appetite for off-the-beaten-path experiences.
Almost three in 10 (28%) travellers say sustainability is influencing their travel plans, with many actively seeking destinations that offer a closer connection to nature and local environments.
Against this backdrop, luxury travel specialists Bailey Robinson analysed natural attractions across the globe to uncover the destinations that best combine outstanding natural beauty with a genuine sense of discovery.
From secluded lagoons in the Philippines and Thailand to crystal-clear alpine lakes in Canada and hidden coves along the British coastline, the study evaluated destinations using visitor ratings, scenic beauty metrics and a bespoke “Hidden Nature Gem Score” designed to identify locations that remain relatively undiscovered despite their remarkable appeal.
The findings highlight a growing travel movement away from bucket-list landmarks and towards meaningful experiences in lesser-known corners of the world, as travellers seek destinations that feel more authentic, less crowded and more connected to nature.
Tying for first place are Hidden Lagoon in Coron, Philippines, and Garibaldi Lake in British Columbia, Canada, both achieving a Hidden Nature Gem Score of 96 out of 100.
While thousands of miles apart, both destinations share the qualities increasingly sought by modern travellers: spectacular scenery, a sense of exclusivity and an experience that feels genuinely off the beaten path.
Hidden Lagoon, located among Coron’s dramatic limestone islands, scored a perfect 100 for its hidden appeal, while Garibaldi Lake impressed with its striking natural beauty and near-perfect hidden score.
Montenegro’s Morinj Beach secured third place with a score of 94.9, while Koh Hong Lagoon in Thailand (92.0) and Kalanggaman Island Beach in the Philippines (90.9) completed the top five.

Notably, the United Kingdom features three times in the global top 10, with Cornwall’s Kynance Cove and Pedn Vounder Beach, alongside Steephill Cove on the Isle of Wight, proving that hidden natural beauty can be found much closer to home.
The ranking highlights a growing shift in traveller priorities, with many increasingly seeking quieter destinations that offer authentic experiences away from overcrowded tourist attractions.
Stephanie Carthy, personal travel advisor at Bailey Robinson, said: “For years, travellers have been encouraged to tick off the world’s most famous landmarks, but we’re increasingly seeing a shift away from ‘must-see’ destinations towards places that feel more personal and undiscovered.
“What makes these destinations stand out isn’t just their beauty. It’s the sense of discovery they offer. In an age where every corner of the world feels documented on social media, travellers are placing greater value on experiences that feel unique, authentic and genuinely surprising.
“The easiest way to find hidden gems is often to stop following the crowd. Travellers tend to focus on the headline attractions, but some of the most extraordinary places sit just beyond the main tourist trail.
“We recommend using famous destinations as a starting point rather than the end goal. Explore the surrounding region, seek local recommendations and don’t be afraid to choose the lesser-known alternative. In our experience, those are often the places travellers remember most long after they return home.”
The findings reflect wider travel trends, as more travellers seek alternatives to crowded hotspots in favour of lesser-known locations that offer greater tranquillity, exclusivity and opportunities for meaningful connection with the natural world.
The top-ranking destinations span five continents, demonstrating that remarkable hidden landscapes can be found across the globe, from remote lagoons and pristine beaches to alpine lakes and rugged coastal coves.
