Frontier Says It’s Poised to Gain From Spirit’s Collapse

Frontier executives said Tuesday they expect the airline to absorb some of Spirit’s business following the beleaguered ultra-low-cost carrier’s shutdown. 

“We have more route overlap with Spirit than any other U.S. carrier, uniquely positioning us to recapture the demand they left behind, drawing on the benefits realized from prior Spirit capacity adjustments,” said chief commercial officer Bobby Schroeter during a call with analysts. 

Schroeter said Frontier expects to see a lift in revenue between 3% and 5% from Spirit’s shutdown. 

Frontier and Spirit overlap on over 100 routes. The Denver-based carrier started aggressively adding more routes in Spirit strongholds shortly before the company filed for its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
