JetBlue and Rivals Race to Grab Spirit’s Routes and Customers

Shortly after Spirit said it would cease operations at 3 a.m. ET on Saturday, many of its competitors rushed to fill in the gaps in the carrier’s largest markets. 

JetBlue announced Saturday that it would launch 11 new destinations out of Fort Lauderdale, a Spirit stronghold. The two carriers had roughly equal market share at Fort Lauderdale, according to data from Cirium.

JetBlue’s new routes from Fort Lauderdale include:

Barranquilla

Baltimore

Cali, Colombia

Charlotte

Columbus, Ohio

Indianapolis

Nashville

Detroit

Houston

Chicago

Ponce, Puerto Rico

The New York-based carrier also said it would add a new nonstop service between Baltim
